Mt. Vernon & Washington DC
Overview:
Enjoy a 1.5 hour narrated riverfront tour from Washington DC to Mount Vernon, as you pass both historic and modern landmarks such as the Naval War College, Ronald Reagan National Airport, Old Town Alexandria, National Harbor, and Fort Washington.
Visit the First President's Estate, Mount Vernon, with access to the historic site, the Mansion, the Ford Orientation Center, the Donald W. Reynolds Museum and Education Center, and the Distillery & Gristmill. Includes a guided tour of recently restored rooms including the Front Parlor, and the one of Mount Vernon’s major bedchambers, the Chintz Room as well as the servants’ hall, kitchen, study and other areas of the Mansion; at the Orientation Center, you can also trace Washington’s life story through exhibits, a 4D Revolutionary War film, and the Washington Interactive Theater; In the museum, discover the people who shaped Mount Vernon, including Washington and Custis family members, enslaved and hired laborers, and Vice Regents of the Mount Vernon Ladies' Association, which has owned and preserved Mount Vernon since the 19th century. At the grounds experience the American Revolution as you walk through an 18th-century Continental Army encampment featuring soldiers' tents and an officer’s tent. In this hands-on attraction, you can touch the items inside the tents, wash clothes in the laundry yard, and examine cooking utensils used by camp followers. Interpreters will be on hand to share information about the life in the encampment and answer questions; walk to the Distillery & Gristmill to tour fully-functioning reconstructions of Washington's gristmill and whiskey distillery. Have lunch on your own at the Food Court. Lunch not included.
This tour will also allow you to explore the National Mall, National Memorials & the White House Visitor Center on your own. At the National Mall, we will be dropping off near the American & Natural History Museum, walking distance to other landmarks including the Air and Space Museum, National Gallery of Art, Botanical Gardens and Washington Monument. Drop off at the White House Visitor Center is optional, which features nearly 100 artifacts from the White House Collection, some for the first time, including items like President Franklin D. Roosevelt's Desk, an Eagle Finial that topped the White House flagpole in the late 19th Century, and the Chief Usher's Desk from 1902 – 1948. Visitors will find artifacts enhanced by hundreds of images of the White House as Office, Home, and Stage. Integrated into the museum gallery are screens, interactive panels and videos highlighting additional imagery and stories from the White House.
